November 2025 Newsletter

Happy Thanksgiving

As you reflect on what you are grateful for this season, I am sure Sheepscot Lake is among the things that make it onto your list! Whether it is swimming, boating, fishing, paddleboarding, snorkeling, water skiing, or simply watching the sunlight dance upon its surface, Sheepscot has been in our lives this year in a meaningful way. We as a board urge you to remember that and to become a member of your Lake Association! If you have not yet paid your dues for 2025, please visit our website where you can do so now. There you can also find out more information about our programs, purchase some Sheepscot Lake “swag” for those on your holiday gift list, and find tips on how you can help keep our lake as healthy as it has been for generations.

As an organization, we are looking for ways to further engage those who love the lake and encourage more participation. One way we did that this year was to implement online voting for our board seats. This way, all members can vote regardless of whether they are on the lake when we hold our annual meeting. I hope that you were easily able to participate in this way. We had a good response to this, and we hope to grow the number of online voters in 2026!

When it comes to our Annual Meeting, we try to make it as interesting and engaging as possible to encourage attendance. This year, as in the past few years, it was a dessert potluck and we had a fun speaker who shared with us mythical tales of the Maine woods! In prior years our speakers included the DEP on loons/nesting platforms and a harbormaster regarding what that position entails. Still, participation has been dropping each year, and we would like to remedy that as best we can. We feel like the low engagement is partially due to Sheepscot being so healthy and not in the middle of a major crisis – which is a good thing of course! But with issues such as development, potential drought conditions, and possible reduced funding opportunities, we need your help. Whether that help is financial, volunteering time, sharing information, or recruiting others to join us in protecting the lake, your support and involvement are critical. Please email any ideas/speakers that you would like to see at an annual meeting, and we will take that into consideration. If you are receiving this newsletter, you are on our mailing list. That could be either because you have paid your dues from 2025, you have paid dues in the past, or you signed up for a program sometime prior. Please consider forwarding or sharing this email with any friends and family who have not received this notice. We would love to be able to reach all Sheepscot Lake enthusiasts!

Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving from your Lake Association Board!
