SPRING 2026 Newsletter

Welcome to the 2026 season from the Sheepscot Lake Association board! We’re looking forward to a great summer and want to share an update on our plans and programs.

Our Courtesy Boat Inspector program is preparing to launch by the July 4th weekend. As you know, the boat inspectors are only at the launch on weekends to check for invasive species, so please inspect your boats, trailers, and fishing equipment whenever entering and leaving the lake. We all play a part in keeping Sheepscot healthy!

This spring the loon nest platform was refurbished and launched back into the same cove for the nesting pair to hopefully utilize again. We have officially named the pair “Shane and Barbara” after the Hunts, who lived on Bald Head Island across the cove from the nest. They were both long-time Sheepscot residents, avid birders and well-deserving of this posthumous recognition. We would like to thank Steve Shaw and the Levesque family for all that they did to refurbish the plants, fix the platform, and launch it into the cold April water! Fingers are crossed that “Shane and Barbara” call it home again this year. Please keep your distance from the nest so that the loons don’t shy away from using it. If there are chicks hatched this year, we hope that they survive into adulthood. Please keep that in mind when boating, swimming, and fishing the lake this summer. Look for loon updates on our Facebook page!

There will be two open Lake Association board seats open this year as two long-time board members, Ursula Burke and Carolyn Viens, are retiring. We are eternally grateful for their many years of dedicated service helping to keep Sheepscot healthy. Thank you, ladies! Please consider running for a board seat – it is a wonderful opportunity to “pay it forward” and help protect the lake. The lake association board only meets during the 5 months of the “summer season,” often via zoom, so you do not have to be present to participate. An online ballot will be sent out in early July, so please let us know if you are interested in running for a board position by emailing us by June 27th at sheepscotlakeassoc@gmail.com

The SLA annual Boat Parade will be Saturday, July 4th (rain date July 5th). This year our Grand Marshal will be former board member and loon enthusiast Joe Burke! Boats will meet in the cove by the boat launch and will line up to head out at 11:00. If you cannot participate by boat, please wave and cheer from your dock! We will publish the route on our Facebook page prior to the parade.

We are presently finalizing details for our annual “get together/meeting” in mid-July. It will be a pot-luck dinner (not just desserts!) at the Fish and Game Club. More information will follow by email and Facebook.

If you are in need of a graduation, Father’s Day, or birthday gift please visit our online merchandise store at https://www.bonfire.com/store/sheepscot-lake-association/ where you can find many Sheepscot Lake items.

Finally, please renew your membership or become a new member by visiting our website at https://sheepscotlakeassociation.com Membership “dues” have not risen in the 15 years we have been around – what a bargain! We rely on these funds to run these programs. We thank you for your support, without which we could not help keep our beautiful lake so healthy.

See you on the lake!
